Diff’rent Strokes actor Conrad Bain dies at 89

5129TGAS0DLPEOPLE is reporting today that Conrad Bain, star of Diff’rent Strokes has died in his hometown of Livermore, Calif. He was 89.

His daughter, Jennifer Bain, confirmed his death to PEOPLE, and said her father died of natural causes.

Bain is best known for his role as Park Avenue millionaire Phillip Drummond in Diff’rent Strokes, which originally aired in 1978 for an eight year run.

In 1996, Bain reprised his role of Phillip Drummond on the series finale of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Bain also played Dr. Arthur Harmon, Bea Arthur’s nemesis, who married her best friend Vivian, in the hit show Maude which aired from 1972-78.

Bain’s daughter told people, “He’d been unconscious for a couple of days, but he was comfortable and it was very peaceful,”

Todd Bridges and Gary Coleman who starred opposite of Bain in Diff’rent Strokes ran into trouble later in life. Bridges struggled with substance abuse, and Coleman had a number of personal and financial problems. Coleman died in 2010, at the age of 42.
