Valerie Harper given 3 months to live
Actress Valerie Harper has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and doctors are giving her only three months to live.
The 73-year-old actress is best known for her role as Rhoda Morgenstern on the television series ’Mary Tyler Moore’ and her spinoff ‘Rhoda.’ Most recently she appeared in ‘Desperate Houeswives.’
Harper has been diagnosed with Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis (LC), sometimes referred to as neoplastic meningitis. It is considered a rare and extremely serious complication of cancer, striking only around five percent of cancer patients. LC is difficult to treat and life expectancy is usually only between two to six months.
Harper beat lung cancer after she was diagnosed in 2009. At the time Harper said that she was a lifelong non-smoker.
According to People Harper is planning on undergoing chemotherapy in an attempt to slow the progression. However she’s focusing on the here and now.
Harper hopes that her celebrity status will bring more attention to the importance of cancer research
Harper has been married to her former fitness advisor Tony Cacciotti since 1987.
