Yuba City priest arrested on child molestation charges
In a press release today, the Diocese of Stockton said that a visiting priest from Columbia was arrested on suspicion of sexual battery and molesting a minor in Yuba City.
The Reverend Julio Guarin-Sosa was helping out at St. Anne’s Parish in Lodi. He was arrested Sunday and faces a number of charges including battery against a minor, molestation against a minor and improper entry into the US.
Guarin is currently in Sutter County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned today in Sutter County Superior Court.
The 43-year-old priest is also the focus of an investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which takes the $250,000 bail set for his other charges off the table, ensuring he stays behind bars.
The diocese was quick to point out that Father Guarin came to St. Anne’s with a letter of good standing from Guarin’s diocese in Colombia.
According to the press release the diocese takes these charges seriously stating, “Every person who annoys or molests any child under 18 years of age shall be punished.”
The Diocese of Stockton has a section on their website dedicated to the protection of children.
