Dionne Warwick files for bankruptcy
According to Dionne Warwick’s publicist, Kevin Sasaki, the five-time Grammy winner is broke due to “negligent and gross financial mismanagement.”
The filing states the 72-year-old Warwick owes the IRS and state of California penalties and interest in excess of $10 million. While the singer has already paid the back taxes owed, the penalties and interest continue to climb.
Warwick listed a monthly income of $20,950, with expenses pegged at $20,940. She spends $5,000 per month on housekeeping and $4,000 per month on a personal assistant.
Sasaki said Warwick has continued to offer re-payment plans to both the IRS and the California Franchise Tax Board, with no success. During this time, penalties and interest continued to accumulate forcing the singer into bankruptcy.
Warwick comes from a family of musicians including her cousin the late Whitney Houston.
In 1987 Warwick shared a Grammy with Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder, for their hit song “That’s What friends are For.”
Warwick continues to tour the world. Late last year in celebration of 50 years of singing she released her latest album “Now.”
