Man mowed down by truck after argument
SACRAMENTO, CA – A 60-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday morning after running over another man he was arguing with, leaving the victim in critical condition.
According to Sacramento Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Jason Ramos, Joseph Leonard was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for running a man over with his pickup truck. He was charged with attempted murder and is being held without bail.
Sacramento Sheriff’s deputies were dispatch to a parking lot at Howe Avenue and Arden Way just before 7 a.m. on Thursday after receiving calls of a fight between a man (Leonard) and two other men.
When deputies arrived on scene they found a 34-year-old man on the ground suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.
Witnesses pointed out Leonard as the driver of the pickup truck that ran over the victim and officers arrested him without incident.
Investigators determined that the victim and another man, who had since left the scene, were in some kind of altercation with Leonard outside of a fast food restaurant in the area. The victim was riding away on his bicycle when, according to witnesses, Leonard drove his truck at the victim, running him down. Leonard exited his truck and began kicking the victim in the head while the victim was motionless on the ground.
A bystander removed the keys from Leonard’s truck and detained Leonard until deputies arrived.
According to Ramos the reason for the violent altercation is still under investigation.
