Update: Eastbound I80 closed after police pursuit

Police-lightsVACAVILLE, CA – Eastbound Interstate 80 in Dixon has been shutdown after a police pursuit and resulting crash.

Friday afternoon Vacaville Police were in pursuit on eastbound I-80 when there was a crash between Vacaville and Dixon, approaching Midway Road.

City of Vacaville spokesman, Mark Mazzaferro, confirmed reports of a pursuit and that there were gunshot victims.

Two suspects were injured in the pursuit. One man was shot after an officer shot into the vehicle during the chase. He was hit in the chest and a woman injured her hand, but it is unclear if it was due to the shooting or the resulting crash.

Five other people were transported to area hospitals. A California Highway Patrol helicopter was on scene, but not used as earlier reported.

According to Vacaville Police two men attempted to steal a television out of the back of a Walmart in the city of Vacaville. After running the plates of their vehicle, officers determined they were out of Sacramento and proceeded to wait for them on Interstate 80.Officers saw the vehicle and pulled it over on I80. An encounter led to one officer firing at the suspects, striking the driver.

At that point the driver attempted to drive away and crashed the vehicle.

The officer who fired the shot was placed on paid administrative leave, as is typical in this situation.
