I80 police pursuit ends with man shot and killed

Police-lightsDIXON, CA – Friday eastbound Interstate 80 in Dixon was shutdown after a police pursuit, shooting and crash, which resulted in the death of one of the suspects.

According to the Vacaville Police Department, the crash came after Vacaville police were in a high-speed chase and shootout with the suspects.

The suspects, 21-year-old Lonnie Taylor and 18-year-old Elizabeth Ilar, were driving a Lincoln MK 8 leaving the Vacaville Walmart, where they were reportedly stealing merchandise.

Originally it was reported that officers decided to wait for the vehicle on Interstate 80 before pulling it over, but the Vacaville Police Department is now saying the chase began on city streets leading officers onto Interstate 80, where they pulled over the Lincoln east of Leisure Town Road.

Officers exchanged gunfire with the suspects hitting Taylor in the chest and Ilar in the hand. Police say Taylor then drove away and eventually collided with a van and then hit the center divider near Midway Road between Vacaville and Dixon.

Taylor was transported to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries. Ilar was taken into custody after receiving treatment.

The Solano County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting.
