GLENDORA, CA – A Teacher of 17 years at a Catholic high school in Glendora, Calif., was fired recently after getting married to his gay partner in a San Bernardino civil ceremony.
According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, 45-year-old Ken Bencomo was fired because of his same-sex ceremony.
“The reason given was that the marriage occurred and the school’s position was that it violated church teachings,” said Bencomo’s attorney Patrick McGarrigle.
Bencomo headed up the English department at St. Lucy’s Priory High School in Glendora, as well as moderated the yearbook and was a dance coach.
Nineteen-year-old Abigail O’Brian, A former student, told the newspaper, “He never talked about his personal life to his students, but it’s something that students and faculty knew.”
According to McGarrigle, “St. Lucy’s has known of Mr. Bencomo’s orientation for years. Administrators had been introduced to his partner in the past, so the suggestion that Ken’s orientation is a surprise or that his lifestyle somehow violated doctrine is at odds with the school’s knowledge and what seemed to be acceptance of him until most recently.”
Bencomo along with his new husband, 32-year-old Christopher Persky were one of the first gay couples waiting to get married on July 1, right after a Supreme Court decision allowed same-sex marriages.
In a statement St Lucy officials said they planned on educating students, “in the tradition of the Catholic faith.” Continuing the statement read, “As a Benedictine school, St. Lucy’s is a community for those who wish to express Christian values in education and develop person and academic excellence.”
The petition said, “On July 1st, the Daily Bulletin ran an article about gay marriage, the front page featured a picture of Ken Bencomo and his longtime partner celebrating their marriage. The outpouring of love and support for the couple was overwhelming. Alumnae, teachers, staff, and friends of St. Lucy’s expressed heartfelt congratulations to Ken, but the school itself responded in a much different manner. After 17 years of service and dedication, Ken Bencomo has been terminated from St. Lucy’s.”
Littleton said, “As a proud alumni of St. Lucy’s, I am disgusted and heartbroken by this act of prejudice. I believe that Mr. Bencomo deserves to keep his job, and that discrimination against teachers based on their sexual orientation must end.” Pleading for help she wrote, “Please join me in speaking up for this adored teacher. Please contact St. Lucy’s Priory high school at (626) 335-3322 or 655 W. Sierra Madre Ave., Glendora CA.”
Does the church have a right to fire someone over gay marriage?

The 36-year-old Silverman is reportedly 10 weeks pregnant with 53-year-old Cowel’s baby. Silverman is married to Cowell’s longtime pal and real estate mogul Andrew Silverman.
Cowell vacationed with the Silverman’s back in 2011 and 2012, and the couple are reported to be in the middle of a divorce. “Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while,” a source told Us.
Cowell has been extremely vocal about his stance on kids in the past.
“God, no. I couldn’t have children. If I had them here drawing on the walls I’d go nuts,” he said in 2009. “With kids, you’ve got a routine you can’t escape from. You’ve got to be up at a certain time. Got to listen. When all you want to do is sit in a corner thinking.”
As Cowell has aged his stance on kids has lightened up somewhat.
“I do really, really like kids, because I can talk to them and listen to them,” he told AOL Music. “The problem has always been how much time you need to devote to bringing up kids. I’ve always dedicated all my life to work, and at 52, I’ve probably missed the opportunity.”
SACRAMENTO, CA – Attorney General Kamala D. Harris announced that Granite Bay resident, 48-year-old Larry Harmon, was sentenced Tuesday to 16 months for a scheme to defraud the state Board of Equalization out of more than $4.5 million in fraudulent claims for tax returns on defaulted car loans.
The case was referred to the Attorney General’s Special Crimes Unit for investigation after an auditor with the California Board of Equalization (BOE) noticed the suspicious claims. Harmon had submitted thousands of fraudulent requests with BOE that, if successful, would have resulted in losses of more than $4.5 million.
“Defrauding state government is equivalent to stealing taxpayer dollars,” Attorney General Harris said. “I applaud the cooperation between my office and the Board of Equalization to stop this scheme before any losses occurred.”
“Those who cheat and defraud our tax system impose a selfish and unfair tax increase on their fellow Californians,” said Board of Equalization Member George Runner. “It’s only right that they be brought to justice.”
Harmon was arrested in January on 10 felony counts of false claims and forgery. Harmon formerly managed investments for several NBA players, including Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks and Ben Gordon of the Charlotte Bobcats.
As owner of Larry Harmon & Associates, Harmon represented financial institutions seeking sales tax refunds from the BOE. A lender is entitled to submit a refund request to BOE when an individual defaults on a car loan and the vehicle is repossessed.
DOJ agents determined that Harmon created fraudulent bank documents and loan papers, along with a shell company called Premier Capital Finance. He submitted these documents to BOE to request refunds for non-existent banks, including Premier Capital Finance. He also fabricated letters from his attorney attesting to the validity of his paperwork.
At the time of the search warrant and arrest, DOJ and BOE agents discovered additional fraudulent documents that indicated he was in the process of creating two additional false claims, each for more than $5 million.
The Board of Equalization and the Attorney General’s Bureau of Investigation routinely combine resources to investigate fraud and tax schemes perpetrated against the State of California as part of a joint effort to combat underground economy crimes.
NEW YORK, NY – Radio talk show host and ‘Americas Got Talent” judge, Howard Stern, invited Anthony Weiner’s mistress and sexting partner to tell all on his syndicated radio program “The Howard Stern Show” on Tuesday.
Twenty-three-year-old Sydney Leathers appeared on “The Howard Stern Show” to dish on her recent ex-lover, 48-year-old Anthony Weiner, who resigned from congress back in 2011 after he posted a sexually suggestive photo of himself to a woman on Twitter – basically Weiner was texting a photo of his weener to a woman, who was not his wife.
As expected Leathers came out swinging and didn’t pull any punches, placing even more doubt on whether Weiner is even qualified to be mayor of New York City. Yes, he’s currently running for mayor and refuses to withdraw and he’s got the backing of his wife, Huma Abedin.
Leathers told Stern, “I mean as funny as it would be to have a Mayor Carlos Danger, I think he’s a little too busy j–king off to do anything for the city.” Weiner likes to refer to himself as Carlos Danger on social media sites.
The candid and sometimes raunchy exchange with Stern shed some light on just how bad Weiner’s needs are when it comes to sex, sexting, and his ego.
Leather’s asked Stern, “Okay, how are you going to be mayor of New York City if you’re c–ming like five times a day?”
According to Leathers their relation started out via email, and then worked its way to regular phone sex and the occasional naked photos.
“Maybe I thought I was in love with him, in reality I wasn’t, it was just the infatuation, and the whole situation was just really intense,” Leathers admitted.
Leathers’ relationship with Weiner started shortly after the then-Congressman was caught sending lewd pictures of his penis to strangers forcing him from office. During that time, Leathers wrote to him through social media site Facebook, telling him how disappointed she was in his behavior.
Fast forward a year, Weiner pokes Leathers on Facebook to apologized for letting her down, but almost immediately he started flirting with her.
“That was what really got me,” Leathers told Stern, “that he’s supposedly getting help but in reality he’s flirting with me.”
Leathers was flattered by Weiner’s attention, and agreed to send him a self-portrait – in thong underwear. Understanding the risk, Weiner then sent her graphic photos of himself.
“He even told me after he sent the first picture, ‘You know I took this just for you,'” Leathers told Sterns. “It was titled ‘For Syd,’ and then he’s like, ‘If this ends up anywhere, I know you did it.'”
Stern’s co-host Robin Quivers asked, “Do you think he maybe actually thinks this is not cheating?”
“Maybe, but then again maybe not because I don’t think he really gives a sh–, to be honest,” Leathers responded. “I think he’s like, ‘I’m Anthony Weiner, I’m gonna do, I’m Carlos Danger, I’m gonna do whatever I want. Who cares about my wife? She’ll forgive me no matter what.’”
It all started going sour when Weiner wouldn’t let go, pestering her with constant phone calls. “He was just this needy little b—h, basically,” Leathers explained.
“It actually was a turn-off. That’s part of why things started to fizzle out, because he was clingy with me, he would get pissy with me over, you know, guys complimenting me on Facebook, just weird sh– like that. I’m like, ‘You’re married. I’m single,’ you know?”
What caused Leathers to come forward and speak out about Weiner was how he’s been on the campaign trail saying he’s a changed man.
“I think I am a little bit angry with him, just because, you know, he lured me into this situation and then he didn’t want to own up to it. What pissed me off was him on the campaign trail saying ‘Oh, I’ve changed,” and trying act like he has this perfect marriage now and everything’s just peachy … I was like, bullsh–, I’m proof that you have not changed.”
Leathers did confirm that she was in talks with Vivid Entertainment about a possible porn deal.
