OROVILLE, CA -  A 3-year-old boy died Thursday after nearly drowning at the Oroville Wildlife Area the day before.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred late Wednesday at the Oroville Wildlife Area about a mile from the Pacific Heights access road.

Unbeknownst to the parents, 3-year-old Brody Guess went into the water. Once the parents realized the boy was missing, it took them a couple of minutes to find him in the murky water.

Brody’s parents started CPR and contacted 911. Paramedics met the family at Ophir Road and transported the boy to Oroville Hospital.

Doctors at Oroville Hospital initially could not find a heartbeat, but were able to establish a pulse.

The boy was later transferred to UC Davis Medical Center, where he later died.
