Bicyclist arrested for DUI after critically injuring man
TRUCKEE, CA – A woman is behind bars on charges for driving under the influence after crashing her bike into a man at a July 4th celebration in Truckee, leaving him in critical condition.
According to the Truckee Police Department, they received a call just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday about a collision between a pedestrian and bicyclist in the area of Donner Pass Road and Donner Lake.
When officers arrived, they found bystanders performing CPR on an adult male who had been struck by the bicyclist. Emergency responders took over lifesaving efforts and transported the man to Tahoe Forest Hospital. The victim was eventually flown to a Reno area hospital, where he remains in critical condition with major trauma to the head area.
Officers arrested 24-year-old Petra Bakker-Borhani of Truckee for operating the bicycle while under the influence of alcohol. Bakker-Borhani remained at the scene and was not injured in the collision.
The name of the pedestrian is not being released at this time. Witnesses reported the pedestrian may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, but that has not been confirmed.
July 4th celebrations had been going on all day in the area with the fireworks show about to start. The fireworks show was not interrupted and went off as planned.
