Man arrested for setting fire in North Highlands
NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA – Wednesday night as Sacramento Metro Fire battled a blaze at a North Highlands town home complex, the person responsible for setting the fire was looking on.
According to Sac Metro, the call came in at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday for a structure fire in 5600 block of Hillsdale Blvd. in the North Highlands area of Sacramento County.
Metro Fire Companies immediately started fighting the structure fire involving one of the buildings that contained three units.
As firefighters were battling the blaze, witnesses informed the Arson Investigator on scene that the man responsible for the fire was watching the fire crews put out the fire.
Sacramento County Sheriff Deputies along with Metro’s Investigator interviewed and ultimately arrested Charles Hui McKenzie at the scene.
Witnesses placed McKenzie at the scene and described him throwing flammable liquids at the units causing the fire.
The investigation is ongoing and the motive is currently unknown.
There were no injuries. The Red Cross did come in and assist one family that was displaced.
