Chico man arrested for child porn

justice-department-sealSACRAMENTO, CA – A Chico man was arrested on Thursday on charges of receiving images of child pornography.

According to United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner, 28-year-old Samuel Thompson was arrested Thursday in Sacramento.

On August 14, 2013, a federal grand jury returned a one-count indictment charging him with receiving images of child pornography. The indictment was unsealed today after his arrest.

According to the indictment, between August 8, 2012, and March 7, 2013, Thompson received images of child pornography.

Thompson is scheduled to be arraigned today at 2:00 p.m. before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dale A. Drozd.

This case is the product of an investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant United States Attorney Matthew G. Morris is prosecuting the case.

If convicted, Thompson faces a statutory penalty of five to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
