Sacramento man killed in motorcycle accident
According to the California Highway Patrol, 55-year-old Gregory Gutierrez was riding his black 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Elkhorn Boulevard in Rio Linda, just west of Marysville Boulevard on Tuesday at around 1:20 p.m.
As traffic started to slow down for a 43-year-old Rio Linda resident who was about to make a left turn into a private driveway, Gutierrez started passing the slower traffic by changing into the westbound lane of traffic. As the resident started his left turn with his 2002 blue Ford F150, Gutierrez slammed into the side of the vehicle as he was traveling between 40 to 50 mph.
Gutierrez was thrown from his motorcycle. He was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the F150 was taken to UC Davis Medical Center with minor injuries.
According to the CHP, Gutierrez was not wearing an approved Department of Transportation motorcycle helmet at the time of the accident.
This is the third fatality involving a motorcyclist this month.
