Sacramento woman killed in Sunday collision

Police-lightsSACRAMENTO, CA – A Sacramento woman died early Sunday morning after the car she was riding in was rear-ended on Watt Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 35-year-old Christine Shimosaka  was a passenger in the back seat of a vehicle traveling eastbound on Watt Avenue, when an SUV driven by 27-year-old Ryan Hoppe rear-ended the vehicle Shimosaka was in.

The SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred. The car carrying Shimosaka was traveling approximately 40 mph at the time of the collision and the impact caused the vehicle to rollover. Shimosaka was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. According to the coroner’s website, she was declared dead at 2:24 a.m. Sunday.

The SUV hit a divider causing it to roll onto its side.

Hoppe and three people in the car with Shimosaka were transported to a local hospital.

The investigation continues and it’s unknown if alcohol played a part in the crash. Protection Status
