LOOMIS, CA – A house fire on Bankhead Road has claimed the life of a father and left his son in serious condition on Sunday afternoon.

According to Cal Fire, firefighters were investigating a house fire that started in a converted garage. The fire caused a large amount of smoke damage and very little fire damage.

Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jim Mathias said the pair were dragged out of the house in critical condition and rushed to a local hospital where 63-year-old Tom Jorgensen later died and his adult son is listed in serious condition.

Both men were found unconscious in the home. Jorgensen was located in a front bedroom and his son was found near the front door.

Jorgensen was a Vietnam War veteran who had lost a leg and was confined to a wheel.

Arson investigators were called out, but currently the fire is not considered suspicious.
