Woman identified in fatal hit and run

ELK GROVE, CA – The woman hit and killed by a vehicle on Tuesday morning has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office.

Officers from the Elk Grove Police Department discoved 62-year-old Babetta Ann Vavrick in the middle of E. Stockton Blvd north of Sheldon Road early Tuesday morning, after receiving reports of a woman sitting on the curb for several hours.

According to the Elk Grove Police Department, officers were called out to the area of E. Stockton Blvd just after 2 a.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived, they discovered an unresponsive Vavrick lying in the northbound lane of traffic on E. Stockton Blvd. Officers and medical personnel were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe that Vavrick was struck and run over by a vehicle that was traveling northbound on E. Stockton Boulevard.

The vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene. At this point, investigators do not have a description of the vehicle involved or the driver.
