Pedestrian killed in South Lake Tahoe
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA – A man with a history of public intoxication was struck and killed in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday.
According to police, 49-year-old Randy Breeton was hit by an SUV as he was trying to cross U.S. Highway 50 near the Town and Country Shopping Center.
Police Lt. Brian Williams told a local paper that Breeton had been arrested 38 times for public intoxication over the last five year, and each time the man was unable to take care of himself or his own safety.
An autopsy is being performed to determine the level of alcohol in Breeton’s system at the time of the tragic accident. Investigators said they found an open beer can inside Breeton’s jacket at the accident scene.
The SUV driver was cleared and released from the scene.
