Stepfather arrested for brutal stabbing of boy
STOCKTON, CA – A 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life after suffering multiple stab wounds at the hands of his stepfather.
According to police, family members who witnessed the attack contacted 911 just after 10 p.m. Saturday. When officers arrived at the home located in the gated community of Summerwind, on the 3200 block of Autumn Chase Circle, they discovered a gruesome scene inside the home.
When officers entered the home they found blood everywhere and a 10-year-old boy with multiple stab wounds being helped by his uncle, Meanwhile, the boy’s stepfather, 53-year-old Lope Charvet, was barricaded in an upstairs bedroom armed with a knife.
According to Stockton Police Spokesman Joseph Silva, when Officer Anthony Perry grabbed the boy from the uncle to take him to safety and waiting medics, the boy , clinching the officers arm and drifting in and out of consciousness, pleaded with the officer, “Please, don’t let me die.”
Once the officer handed the boy over to medics, the boy said, “Thank you.”
When officers entered the barricaded bedroom, they found Charvet leaning against a door with multiple self-inflicted stab wounds.
The boy was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.
Charvet was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries and then promptly arrested and booked into San Joaquin County Jail.
Neighbors in this quiet gated community were shocked when they discovered what had occurred in the home.
One neighbor told CBS13, “It was just shocking for everybody in the community — too close to home.”
