13-year-old shot while holding toy gun

Police-lightsSANTA ROSA, CA – A 13-year-old boy was shot and killed by two Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputies on Tuesday, after deputies mistook a toy gun for the real thing.

The boy was walking along Moorland Ave in Santa Rosa with a replica assault weapon around 3 p.m. Tuesday when the two deputies ordered the teen to drop the weapon.

According to Lt. Dennis O’Leary, the deputies repeatedly made the request to drop the gun before opening fire on the teen, later identified as Andy Lopez.

Deputies handcuffed the boy and started emergency treatment for his wounds, but Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies also found a plastic handgun in Lopez’s waistband.

Sonoma County Sheriff Steve Freitas issued a statement on Wednesday regarding the “terrible loss of Andy Lopez, his family, the family’s loved ones, friends, our community, and the members of the Sheriff’s Office.”

Freitas assured everyone that the “Sheriff’s Office is fully cooperating with the investigation being conducted by the Santa Rosa Police Department, Petaluma Police Department, the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office and we will continue to do so for the duration of the investigation.”

Teen fatally shot identified

Police-lightsSACRAMENTO, CA – The teenage boy who was shot and killed outside a Raley’s store on Mack Road Saturday afternoon has been identified as 15-year-old Javillion Ward, of Sacramento.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, police responded to the Raley’s store located on the 4500 block of Mack Road just before 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Witnesses said there was a fight between two groups in front of the store. During the confrontation someone pulled a gun, firing multiple shots into the group, ultimately shooting Ward.

A California Highway Patrol officer was driving by the area and attempted to help the teen. The boy was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

The suspect fled the scene immediately following the shooting.

Investigators are trying to determine what started the fight and if it was gang related.

6-year-old boy drowns in El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY, CA – A 6-year-old boy’s body was found after disappearing along the shores of Jenkinson Lake on Sunday.

According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department 6-year-old Trip Demetri of Latrobe was found dead after drowning in Jenkinson Lake at around 4 p.m.

Demetri was playing along the shoreline with his sister in the Bumpy Meadows picnic area when he disappeared in the water. The two were visiting the lake with their father.

Searchers located his body around 5:20 p.m., approximately 10 feet from shore.

Trip and his sister were visiting the lake with their father.

WOODLAND, CA – The 2-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a car Thursday has been identified.

Woodland Police, along with fire and ambulance personnel, responded to the Bel Air Shopping Center at 1885 E. Gibson Road in Woodland on Thursday, after receiving a call about a vehicle hitting a small child.

When officers arrived they found 2-year-old Elijah Lewis lying next to a Red 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the west entrance of the Bel Air Shopping Center. He was transported to U.C. Davis Medical Center where he later died.

The driver of the  vehicle was identified as 67-year-old Kathleen Parker from Woodland.

According to Woodland police it appears to be an ‘unfortunate unintentional’ traffic accident.

The family is planing a candle light vigil at the Bel Air Shopping Center and told CBS Sacramento, they would like to have the driver of the vehicle that killed their son at the vigil.

Richard Lewis, Elijah’s father, told CBS, “Yes things for us are hard, but I can only imagine what she’s going through,”, referring to Parker, the driver of the vehicle that ran over his son.

Elijah’s birthday party was only three week s away.

Boy 10 shot in Citrus Hieghts

Sacramento NewsCBS13 is reporting that a 10-year-old boy may have been targeted by a shooter, leaving the boy in critical condition.

According to witnesses at the scene, a man got out of a black Acura that had pulled up to the residence , pulling a gun and taking aim at  Eric Raya-Ramirez who was standing in front of a home shooting the young boy multiple times.

Ramarez was attending a birthday party on Whitecliff way in North Highlands when the senseless shooting occurred. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition.

According to police Ramirez was shot at least four times.

Police have very little to go on and are still trying to determine the motive.

Danny Gokey: It’s a boy!

Danny GokeyPeople magazine is reporting that the American Idol season eight alum Danny Gokey and wife Leyicet welcomed their first child Sunday night.

Daniel Emanuel Gokey weighed in at 8 pounds, 11 ounces.

Gokey released the following statement:

“Leyicet and I are overjoyed to welcome the new member of our family. I’m ecstatic to be a first time dad and to have a new little buddy to hang out with. Thankfully, because of what I do, it will also allow me the flexibility to spend a lot of quality time with him. I have so many exciting projects ahead this year but a brand new baby is an amazing way to get the new year started. We feel really blessed!”

The 32-year-old Gokey, whose first wife died in 2008 following an operation for congenital heart disease, married Leyicet, a 26-year-old model, in January 2012. Their engagement and marriage were announced on his charity website, Sophia’s Heart.

The site was created in honor of Gokey’s late wife Sophia. As some of you may recall, in Idol season eight, Gokey shared the tragic story of losing his wife to routine heart surgery. Since then he has dedicated himself to raising money for Sophia’s Heart, reaching out to children and helping them through difficult times, at various stages of their lives.
