Psy breaks another Bieber record

psy-gentlemanIt appears the South Korean pop-star Psy is going to stick around for at least a little bit longer.

On Saturday the 35-year-old singer released the video to his new single “Gentleman” on YouTube.

“Gentleman” is the follow-up song to the wildly popular “Gangnam Style,” which went on to break a YouTube record with over 1.5 billion views.

Apparently “Gentleman” has broken Justin Bieber’s record for the most views in the first-day category, with “Gentleman” amassing over 18 million views in its first day on YouTube, beating, or should we say killing, Bieber’s record of 8 million views for “Beauty and the Beat.”

The overall record for most views in the first-day category is the short film “KONY 2012,” with 30 million views.

PSY kicked Bieber’s butt with the release of “Gangnam Style” when he surpassed “Baby” in overall views. Bieber’s “Baby” had 848 million views, compared to “Gangnam Style” with 1.5 billion.

In honor of Jimi Hendrix’s 70th birthday, Experience Hendrix LLC is releasing a new album on Tuesday of the iconic musician entitled “People, Hell and Angels.

The album is a collection of 12 unreleased studio performances by Hendrix who died in 1970 at the age of 27 from an accidental drug overdose.

Also being released are mono vinyl editions of Hendrix’s albums “Are You Experienced” and “Axis: Bold As Love.”

Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s step-sister and CEO of Experience Hendrix explained, “After the huge success of the (Jimi Hendrix) Experience and those first albums, he wanted to branch out more, and the blues sound on this is just different from the others,” continuing she said, “This new album is very important for all his fans as it really showcases his creativity and a different side to him.”

Hendrix worked with an eclectic mix of musicians including Mitch Mitchell (drums), Noel Redding (bass), Stephen Stills, Buddy Miles (drums), Lonnie Youngblood (sax), Billy Cox (bass).

Those sessions that were recorded between 1968 and 1969 form the foundation of “People, Hell and Angels,” which is co-produced by Janie Hendrix, original engineer/mixer Eddie Kramer and Hendrix historian John McDermott.

Justin Bieber continues to break records

THE ISLAND DEF JAM MUSIC GROUP JUSTIN BIEBER ACOUSTICAs Justin Bieber continues to entertain the masses both on and off stage, the self-proclaimed Prince of Pop continues to break records, as the 18-year-old Biebs now has five number one albums before the age of 19.

Justin Bieber gropes woman’s breast at meet and greet

His latest album “Believe Acoustic” has soared to number one in its first week of sales.

“With this week’s incredible success of ‘Believe Acoustic’, Justin continues to impress everyone with the magnitude of his artistry,” said Steve Bartels, President & COO, Island Def Jam Music Group.  “His vision for ‘Believe Acoustic’ was an organic extension of his growth as a musician on tour and in the studio, consummately devoted to his fans.  The album reflects an artist who is not afraid to step outside of every stereotype, regardless of his age.  Congratulations, Justin.”

“Believe Acoustic” shot to number one on iTunes in over 63 countries, including the U.S., and according to Billboard this makes him only the “tenth act to score a number one album in four consecutive years.” The top three artists who have accomplished consecutive years with a number one album are Jay-Z (7 years), the Beatles (6 years), and Paul McCartney/Wings (5 years).

“Believe Acoustic” offers acoustic versions of eight songs from Justin’s worldwide multi-platinum #1 album of 2012, “Believe,” including hits “Boyfriend,” “As Long As You Love Me” (featuring Big Sean), and “Beauty And A Beat” (featuring Nicki Minaj). All acoustic tracks were co-produced by Justin Bieber and his guitarist Dan Kanter.

With Bieber’s fame and fortune at such an early age it’s not surprising that the pop-star has had a few slips in the public eye. There are several not-so-shining examples such as his “accidently” posting a photo of his bare butt on Instagram, photos showing up of him smoking pot, and most recently a meet and greet photo of him groping a woman’s breast.

Just recently Bieber saw his Twitter account overtake Lady Gaga’s as his followers climbed to over 33.9 million.

The Bieber Nation has to be proud of their favorite pop-artist as he heads to New York to tape NBC’s Saturday Night Live as host and musical guest this weekend.

Declan MacManus Releases Limited Edition Boxed Set!

Elvis Costello's The Spectacular Spinning Songbook

Declan MacManus will be releasing The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook.

This is a 3 disc  – oh wait a second. You probably have no idea who the hell MacManus is, or do you?

Declan MacManus is the one and only Elvis Costello! Yes, I know, with a name like MacManus why would you change it to Elvis Costello? Call me crazy, but doesn’t Costello look like a Declan MacManus? I’m just saying.

The UK-born singer is best known for his unique style of performances. Costello was initially marketed as punk, but his music sounded more like pub-rock with a little bit of country thrown in for good measure.

In 1977 with his trademark geeky glasses and suit, Costello released his debut album My Aim is True, and the memorable single “Alison.” It was a classic debut, showcasing Costello’s witty songwriting and his unique sound. His follow-up album, This Year’s Model, featured three of his most famous songs: “Pump It Up,” “(I Don’t Want to Go to) Chelsea” and “Radio Radio,”

In 1986 Costello and the Attractions opened their Spectacular Spinning Songbook tour with Costello playing emcee Napoleon Dynamite.

Costello would ask audience members onstage to spin a large wheel of songs, creating a completely different setlist each night.

Elvis/Napoleon Dynamite returns with an awesome 3-disc (CD, DVD, 10″ vinyl LP) live box set entitled The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning

Songbook. This was recorded over a 2-night stand at the art-deco Wiltern in Los Angeles on May 11 and 12, 2011.

Only 1500 copies will be sold. Each set is individually numbered with a special commemoration card autographed by Elvis Costello. It will include a 40-page hardcover book filled with candid photos, a tour diary of Costello’s musings from each tour stop, a 20″ x 30″ concert tour poster and a limited edition postcard.

The DVD is from Costello’s show on May 12, 2011, and includes a special guest appearance by the Bangles, plus bonus footage including behind-the-scenes moments captured with the Imposters as well as extra performances not included in the main set of the show. The 10-inch vinyl record features four songs only available in this set.

All this is housed in a nicely put together box with a working spinning replica of “The Spectacular Spinning Songbook” on the front cover!

Only 1500 copies were printed and autographed so don’t miss out.

And it looks like Amazon already has them up for pre-order for $250 and they show a shipping date of November 21st. That looks like it will be a busy day for Amazon, since their new Kindle Touch ships the same day. For that kind of money I think I’d by two Kindles and then listen to Elvis Costello on my new Kindle, but that’s just me.

From our WTF Department

Nirvana Nevermind Album PhotographI’m sure everyone read WTF to mean What The F***, but what it really means is What The Facebook.

Corny I know, but read on .  .  .

Nirvana’s iconic album Nevermind is celebrating it’s twenty year anniversary. That’s quite a milestone, especially if anyone reading this remembers the release way back in September 1991.

You remember 1991 right? That was the year of Desert Storm and gas was just north of a dollar at $1.12 per gallon, and you could still afford to go to a concert. There was also the firestorm in the Oakland hills that burned thousands of homes and killed 25 people. Sadly that was also the year we lost Freddie Mercury lead singer of Queen due to the AIDS virus.

So to celebrate this monumental moment the bands label, Universal, is planning to sell a 4-CD/1-DVD reissue of the album. However, Facebook has taken issue with cover art of a naked baby boy floating in a pool just letting it all hang out. According to Facebook the image violates it Terms of Use policy.

This hit the news twenty years ago! It’s old news. Facebook – get over yourselves. You are not the internet police, Google is.

Just relax and take a hit of this wild ass weed I just scored with my medical card. After all, we have progressed as a society – at least I’d like to think we have.

Later dude .  .  . I have a concert to get to.

SPIN Magazines Tribute to Nirvana

Twenty years after Nirvana’s Nevermind, SPIN magazine is paying tribute to Nirvana in their August issue and giving away a free music download entitled Newermind.

Yes, I said twenty years as in the big two zero. Anyone reading this that remembers the release of Nevermind is just plain friggin old. Men, that bald spot isn’t going away  anytime soon. Women, it doesn’t matter if you use wire support, or push-up, those puppies are still sagging just a bit more than last year.

As part of SPIN’s download package they have tapped some of their favorite contemporary artists (see below) to cover the influential album’s 13 songs, in their original order, including performances by the Meat Puppets and the Vaselines, both of which were favorites of Kurt Cobain’s. Check out their magazine for some great concert photography.

A little over twenty years ago in Sacramento, California Nirvana performed at a concert in the now defunct Cattle Club on February 12, 1990. The Cattle Club was Sacramento’s premier venue for all ages. The event was attended by roughly 60 people at a cover charge of 6 bucks.

Also, catch the Foo Fighters at Power Balance Pavilion on October 20, 2011, featuring original Nirvana band members Dave Grohl (lead vocals, guitar, piano) and Pat Smear (guitar).
